Welcome To Tai Chi Horsham

The Horsham group practises Wudang Tai Chi Chuan, also known as Practical Tai Chi Chuan. We teach traditional Tai Chi Chuan Hand Forms, Pushing Hands Drills, Weapon Forms, Self Defence Applications and Nei Gung exercises as taught by Cheng Tin-hung and his successor in the UK and Europe, Dan Docherty.

Wudang Tai Chi Chuan is practiced by thousands around the world and the Horsham group enjoys links and regular workshops with other instructors in Sussex and beyond.

People come to Tai Chi for many reasons. For some it is the fact that it is a martial art with empty hand and weapons training; for others it is because of the benefits for flexibility, strength and balance that the forms and movements can bring; and for some others it is the aesthetic and expressive nature of the slow, fluid movements of the hand forms.

We adapt classes to suit these differing interests, each of which in fact come to complement each other after practising for some time.

Tai Chi Classes

Classes and clothing are very informal. There are no gradings or compulsory competitive aspects to the style. We take our Tai Chi Chuan seriously but not ourselves! Classes are friendly and welcoming for different levels.

Workshops

Workshops are for students who have been attending classes for some time and can at least follow the short hand form reasonably easily. We aim to hold them on the first Saturday of the month

Camps

The camp is an opportunity to meet up with old friends and make some new ones as well as having structured teaching sessions. Of course, there will be opportunity to to debate the finer points of tai chi chuan over a beer or three!

About Us

Peter and David are both highly experienced Instructors having learnt directly from Dan Docherty the founder of Practical Tai Chi Chuan International. They both believe in making classes enjoyable and welcoming.

What Customers Say

“What I love most is how philosophy and movement come together. It’s strengthened the connection between my mind and body. It also energises me, improving my balance and flexibility. After a long day at work, I leave the class feeling calm and at peace.”
Clare
“From the moment I joined Horsham Tai Chi, Peter, David, and the other students made me feel truly welcome. They’re serious about Tai Chi, but don’t take themselves too seriously. There’s a warmth and humour that shines through, which says a lot about their passion and wonderful personalities. We’re always encouraged to ask questions, and if we like, read to explore the cultural origins of Wudang Tai Chi Chuan in more depth. This adds another layer of meaning to the movements. .”
Sophie
“Highly recommend Peter & David as excellent, experienced teachers of Tai Ji & Qi Gong in the lineage of Dan Docherty. Friendly & welcoming for all levels.”
